  29. uses very little memory.  If you use Novell(R) Netware, METZ Lock works
  30. right along with it.  METZ Lock can detect and use your Novell password, if
  31. you like.  Use METZ Lock to change your Novell password or, if you prefer,
  32. use separate Novell and METZ Lock passwords.

  34. With METZ Lock, you can prevent unauthorized use of your system, yet
  35. allow applications to continue to run in the background.  You can even
  36. set up METZ Lock to prevent system rebooting with CTRL-ALT-DEL.  A
  37. comprehensive set of options keeps you in control of system access. You
  38. can lock up every time you start Windows, at the same time every day,
  39. or whenever your system has remained idle for a specified amount of time.

  94. METZ Software has also designed PCW-Lock, security software which works
  95. in conjunction with Harcom Security Systems, Inc.'s line of security
  96. products.  PC-Watchman ACS (Access Control Software) makes it practical
  97. to install company-wide PC security, even when there are thousands
  98. of PC's to protect.  With PC-Watchman ACS, you can avoid high implentation
  99. costs, vulnerability to being bypassed by skilled users, and complex
  100. installation and administration procedures.

  103. which cannot be circumvented even by booting from a floppy.  ACS blanks

  124. 1.  Novell Netware Support
  125.  
  126.     METZ Lock supports Novell Netware passwords.  If you
  127. have a password-protected Novell network installed, Lock can
  128. automatically detect your Novell password and use it as the
  129. default METZ Lock password.
  130.     Uncheck the Use Novell Password checkbox on the METZ Lock
  131. Configuration dialog box, if you do not want to use your Novell
  132. password as your METZ Lock password.
  133.  
  134. NOTE:  Note the following about using Novell passwords:
  135.        A.  When you change your METZ Lock password, your
  136.            Novell password will change, too.
  137.        B.  If you want to use METZ Lock but you do not want
  138.            to password-protect your Novell network, be sure
  139.            to keep the Use Novell Password checkbox unchecked.
  140.            Otherwise, your METZ Lock password will become your
  141.            Novell network password.
  142.        C.  Unlike METZ Lock passwords, Novell network passwords
  143.            do not appear encrypted in the "CRX=" line of the
  144.            WIN.INI file.  You will not be able to remove a
  145.            Novell password by editing the WIN.INI file.  If you
  146.            forget your Novell password, you will need to contact
  147.            your network administrator.

  150. 2.  Using METZ Lock with Non-Windows Applications
  151.  
  152.    If you run DOS applications under Microsoft Windows, and are
  153. having problems with the password dialog activating while you are
  154. working in the DOS window, make sure that METZKW.SYS is installed
  155. in your CONFIG.SYS file.  This driver (METZKW.SYS) detects activity
  156. in your DOS application.  Your CONFIG.SYS file should contain a
  157. line reading:
  158.  
  159.    device=c:\windows\system\metzkw.sys (or the appropriate path)
  160.  
  161. Don't forget to reboot if you have just made the changes to
  162. your CONFIG.SYS file.
  163.  
  164.  
  165. 3.  Technical Information about METZKW.SYS.
  166.  
  167.     METZKW.SYS uses only 1360 bytes of memory.
  168.  
  169.     METZKW.SYS can be loaded high.
  170.  
  171.     METZKW.SYS has the following optional parameters:
  172.  
  173.     /NOCAD - disables CTRL-ALT-DEL at the DOS level.
  174.  
  175.     /NOMAT - disables mouse tracking, should there be a conflict
  176.  
  177.     If you were to add both options to your CONFIG.SYS, they would
  178. appear as follows:
  179.  
  180.     device=c:\windows\system\metzkw.sys /NOCAD /NOMAT
  181.  
  182. 4.  Using METZKW.COM instead of METZKW.SYS.
  183.  
  184.     If you find that the keyboard activity is not being detected
  185. while running DOS applications under Windows, it may be necessary
  186. to use the METZKW.COM version of METZKW.SYS because of a few
  187. drivers that interfere with the operation of METZKW.SYS.
  188. Running METZKW.COM in your AUTOEXEC.BAT after these drivers are
  189. loaded, and before Windows is run, will eliminate the problem.
  190.  
  191.     The DOS KEYB command and some network drivers affect METZKW.SYS.
  192.  
  193.     Both METZKW.SYS and METZKW.COM are on the installation diskette.
  194.  
  195. 5.  Using Lock with Windows 3.1 Screen Savers
  196.  
  197.     If you wish to use a Windows Screen Saver along with METZ Lock,
  198. simply configure the desired Screen Saver from the Windows Control
  199. Panel.  You should set the Windows Screen Saver delay value to
  200. a number higher than the Lock timeout value.  Lock will then
  201. automatically activate the Windows Screen Saver when the system is
  202. locked.
  203.  
  204. 6.  Adjusting the METZ Lock Screen Saver Bitmap Display Interval
  205.  
  206.     If you wish to adjust the rate at which METZ Lock moves
  207. the Screen Saver bitmap around the screen, add the following
  208. line to the METZ Lock section of your WIN.INI file:
  209.  
  210.           [METZ Lock]
  211.           bmpdelay=##
  212.  
  213. where ## is the number of seconds you want to wait before the
  214. bitmap is moved again.
  215.  
  216. 7.  The METZ Lock Program Files
  217.  
  218. You have received either LK.EXE or LOCK.ZIP, archive files containing
  219. the following METZ Lock prgram files and other important information:
  220.  
  221.      LOCK.EXE     -  The METZ Lock program                (required)
  222.      LOCK.HLP     -  The METZ Lock program Help file
  223.      METZ.DLL     -  METZ Software dynamic link library   (required)
  224.      LOCK.TXT     -  The METZ Lock information file you are now reading
  225.      VKD.386      -  Virtual Keyboard Driver
  226.      METZ.ORD     -  METZ Software order form
  227.      METZPROD.TXT -  METZ Software product descriptions
  228.      METZKW.SYS   -  METZ memory resident MS-DOS program that
  229.                      provides Screen Saver support
  230.      NWCONN.DLL   -  Novell dynamic link library (required for Novell

  237. 8.  Installing METZ Lock
  238.  
  239. To install and set up METZ Lock on your system:
  240.      1.  Unpack or unarchive the METZ Lock program files and move them
  241.          to the directory where you want to keep them.
  242.      2.  Add LOCK.EXE to the "load" or "run" line of your WIN.INI file.
  243.      3.  The first time you start METZ Lock, choose the Configure...
  244.          command from the Lock System menu to set your preferences and
  245.          password.  You may change them again any time you need to.
  246.  
  247. 9.  Command Line Options
  248.  
  249. You can add the following command line options whenever you load
  250. METZ Lock:
  251.      /H or /h  - Hide the METZ Lock program icon
  252.      /L or /l  - Automatically lock or blank the screen when METZ Lock runs
  253.  
  254. 10.  Using METZ Lock
  255.  
  256. The METZ Lock program icon is a key and a keyhole.  The first time you
  257. start METZ Lock, you'll have to enter and confirm a password.  Once you've
  258. entered a password, METZ Lock will continue to use it until you change it
  259. again.  METZ Lock passwords are case-sensitive--so be sure to type in
  260. the exact combination of upper-case and lower-case characters.
  261.  
  262. All METZ Lock menu commands appear on its system menu.  Experiment with the
  263. options on the Configuration and Advanced Configuration dialog boxes until
  264. you find the exact combination of settings that best meet your security
  265. needs.
  266.  
  267. 11. De-Installing METZ Lock
  268.  
  269. To de-install METZ Lock:
  270.      1.  Edit your SYSTEM.INI, change the following setting:
  271.            Change:
  272.               [386Enh]
  273.               keyboard=D:\WIN31\VKD.386  (path may be different)
  274.            To:
  275.               [386Enh]
  276.               keyboard=*vkd
  277.      2.  Remove LOCK.EXE from the "load" or "run" line of your WIN.INI
  278.          file, or Program Manager Startup Group.
  279.      3.  Delete the METZ Lock Program Manager Group.
  280.      4.  Delete the Lock files.
  281.      5.  Restart Windows.
  282.  
  283. -------------------------METZ Lock Version History------------------------
  284.  
  285. This section describes major changes to each released version of METZ Lock.
  286.  
  287. Version 3.2
  288.    *  METZ Lock now has tight integration with the Windows Screen
  289.       Savers.  If you have selected a Windows Screen Saver from
  290.       the Control panel, Lock will activate the screen saver when
  291.       the system is locked.
  292.       Please note, Windows screen savers will not timeout when
  293.       a DOS application is active.  However, Lock will timeout
  294.       properly if a DOS application is active and launch the
  295.       selected Windows Screen Saver.
  296.       The timeout values for Lock and Windows Screen Savers can
  297.       be different, however, Lock will activate the selected Windows
  298.       Screen Saver when the system is locked.  We suggest that you
  299.       set your screen saver timeout to a value greater than the
  300.       Lock timeout.
  301.    *  Compatibility with third party screen savers like AfterDark,
  302.       Intermission, and Norton has been added.
  303.    *  256 color bitmaps are now supported.
  304.    *  Miscellaneous improvements and fixes have been made.

  306. Version 3.1d
  307.    *  METZ Lock now supports third party extensions, allowing corporate
  308.       sites to maintain external password links.  If your company
  309.       has additional security support requirements, please contact
  310.       METZ Software for technical details and customization information.

  313.    *  METZKW.SYS now replaces METZTSR.COM and has the added ability to
  314.       detect mouse and keyboard activity in DOS applications.
  315.    *  Lock now detects Microsoft Tutorial sessions and avoids the
  316.       conflicts they can cause.

  339.       user-defined hotkeys, a "hide" option for the METZ Lock program icon,
  340.       and the capability to lock the system at a specific time.
  341.       You can specify the time the system will lock in either a
  342.       24 hour format or 12 hour format.
  343.    *  A Window 3.0 help system has been added.

  345. Version 1.52
  346.    *  Corrections to the operation of the Screen Saver Only mode.
  347.    *  Mouse sensitivity has been reduced to prevent the accidental
  348.       activation of the Password dialog box or the timeout of the Screen
  349.       Saver.

  351. Version 1.51
  352.    *  METZ blanks the screen by default.  To change this, use the
  353.       Configuration dialog box.
  354.    *  You can now prevent rebooting of the system with the
  355.       [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Del] sequence by setting this option on the
  356.       Configuration screen.  This option is supported in all Windows 3.0
  357.       modes (that is, Real, Standard, and Enhanced).  METZ Lock MUST
  358.       be running to disable [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Del] under Windows.
  359.       The memory resident program METZKW.SYS allows you to prevent
  360.       rebooting from DOS.
  361.    *  You must enter your password to access the Configuration dialog box.
  362.       This prevents unauthorized modification of your configuration.
  363.    *  This version is compatible with Almanac version 1.04 and greater.

  365.       Almanac update.)

  368.    *  For added security, METZ Lock now automatically locks the system
  369.       if you try to run it a second time while the Lock option is turned
  370.       on.  You can only run one copy of METZ Lock at a time.
  371.    *  The printing of order forms from the About box has been fixed.

  373. Version 1.4
  374.    *  As of version 1.4, you can configure METZ Lock to act as a Screen
  375.       Saver without locking the system, by choosing the "Screen Saver only
  376.       mode" in the Configuration dialog box.  Screen blanking will be
  377.       automatically turned on as well.
  378.    *  This version prevents timeouts while you are working with an MS-DOS
  379.       application during a Windows session.  Timeouts can only now if you
  380.       are inactive in any MS-DOS window as well.  To prevent timeouts in
  381.       MS-DOS windows, you must install a special memory resident program
  382.       called METZKW.SYS.
  383.   *   You can now double-click on the METZ Lock prgram icon with either
  384.       mouse button to activate lock.
  385.   *   Previously, if the Screen blanking option was turned off, the Lock
  386.       dialog box always remained visible, potentially interfering with
  387.       other Screen Savers installed on your system.  Now, the Lock dialog
  388.       box disappears after 20 seconds, and reappers whenever a key is
  389.       pressed or the mouse is moved.

  392.   *   The Lock and Hide command line options can now be configured in the
  393.       METZ Lock section of your WIN.INI file:
